Last Lap

Oil on Board
Board: 24” x 18”

A bearded figure is perched atop another man’s back as they traverse the dusty, sloping terrain of a rugged and arid desert. The bright hues of the landscape and the pale blue sky suggest the heat of the sun bearing down on them, while the fine details of dust on their clothing hint at the toil and grime of the labor. Camaraderie movingly underlies the grunts and sweats of a weary life.

A second, unfinished painting of a man’s face is on the verso, along with the title and ownership stickers of Dixon and his wife Edith.
