Playing with the stark contrast between light and shadow, this work captures the pivotal first moment when a newcomer arrives in town. Standing tall on his not-quite-noble steed, the man is isolated compared to the gathering crowd. The group smiles at him, but their postures and expressions suggest a mocking and judgmental tone. The choice to use black and white for this composition emphasizes the discomfort of an outsider entering a new space.
