A flock of chickens are captured in a warm and tranquil rural setting. Two fowl feed from a bowl while another stands between them with its chest puffed and an intent gaze. Light illuminates the face of the rustic wall and gives a hazy aura to the soft trees beyond the enclosure. The deep shadows in the foreground lend a warm romanticism to the scene, exemplary of Tait’s capacity for imbuing beauty in the commonplace.
