Pratt, P.P. A Voice of Warning and Instruction to all People containing A Declaration of the faith and doctrine of the church of the Latter Day Saints, commonly called Mormons. New York: Printed by W. Sanford 1837. Size: 4”x6” (32mo/18mo). [x] 216 pages. Brown cloth cover. Signed by James W. Phillips.

Cover has warping and staining. Writing on front end leaf. Consistent foxing and wrinkling throughout the text block. Writing on the back paste in. While serving a mission in New York, Parley P. Pratt spent two months writing Voice of Warning. Though it wasn’t the first literature to lay out the beliefs of Mormonism, Parley P. Pratt’s book was the first literature to specify what the differences were between the Mormon church and other Christian faiths. It is a book which has been called “the most powerful proselytizing work after *The Book of Mormon*” (Givens and Grow, *Parley P. Pratt: The Apostle Paul of Mormonism*, p.90).
